After the source under the half-timbered house, the Ahr ripples through Blankenheim and cascades into deeper regions. The bike path is well signposted, you can’t get lost. It often leads through the forest, which is very pleasant in today’s heat. We can see the Ahr as a small creek below us. Again and again we drive on the route of the old Ahr Valley Railway line or cross it. The upper Ahr Valley Railway was completed in 1913, but was severely destroyed in World War II. Despite an expansion in the 50s, the usage did not last long. The route was completely dismantled by 1980. In recent years, it has become a wonderful bike path.
On the way back we have to pedal a little more, it mostly goes through the forest, and with the help of our e-bike this is not a problem.
A visit to the small but beautiful butterfly garden completes our tour.
