Another big battle – Three-Emperor-Battle of Austerlitz

Due to heavy rain, the visit to the open-air museum literally falls into the water. Too bad, because it is considered the oldest and largest of its kind. So, let’s go, literally “through Wallachia”, in German usage a synonym for “remote country”.

The memorial “burial mound of peace” commemorates the three emperor battle of Austerlitz. On 2 December 1805 history was written at this place. Napoleon faced a superior force of Austrians and Russians. But his ingenious strategy brought him victory. Europe was his and Austria was no longer a world power. However, about 40,000 soldiers lost their lives in the international massacre. On the 100th anniversary of the battle, the memorial was inaugurated on the hill Pratzen.
