Greeks and Turks

Above the white cliffs of our beach the Greek city of Eraclea Minoa was situated. There is not much left of it.

The small amphitheater is protected by a roof of plexiglas.

There are a few excavations but there is not much to see. The main attraction is the magnificent view.

Further south is a grand natural monument, the “Scala dei Turchi”, the Turkish stairs.  Stairs because the giant steps remind on a gigantic staircase, Turks because pirates (Turks) are said to be landed here. Nowadays the sparkling white lime stone formation quite often is used for fashion pictures.
