South of Chioggia the rivers Brenta, Etsch and Po form the huge Po Delta, the largest biotope of Italy. A large part of the delta lies below the waterlevel. The endless water landscape is under protection as a National Parc, more then 300 different birds live in the delta.
We stay at near a big marina close to the shore. The guard informs us we are not supposed to park here but for one night it will be ok.
Today Comacchio lies on the southern edge of the delta. Originally it was situated at the mouth of the River Po, but in the 12th century the river shifted its way more to the north. The small city has kept its original appearance.
